Mallow GAA notes 10th May 2018

Thanks to our proud Football and Hurling Sponsors Maureen’s Pub and The Mousetrap Bar…

Our Junior Footballers ran out comfortable  winners over Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels last Sunday morning, in Kilshannig, on an eventual score line of 6-10 to 0-10.. Mallow showed their superiority from the start with Kevin McCarthy hitting 1-1 in the opening minutes. Despite Mallow being the stronger team, throughout, full credit must go to the Gaels for keeping the game competitive right to the end regardless of how the scoreboard read. We wish them well for the year! Our Juniors will now await the draw for the next round which will see them back in action in late June or early July.. The very best of luck to all concerned..
Mallow- Bobby Kennedy, Shane Merritt, Jack Kennedy, John McGuinness, Michael Quirke, Ritchie Willis, Aaron Cahill, Stephen O’Callaghan(1-0), Tadgh Carroll(1-0), Conor Stokes, Kevin McCarthy(1-1), Jack Dillon, Michael O’Rourke(1-6, 1p 2f), Colin Stanton, Marc Kenny(1-2).
Subs- Alan Hogan for K McCarthy(37’), Eoin O’Carroll(1-0) for M Kenny(43’), Sean Kelly for R Willis(49’), Mark Roche for Conor Stokes, Peter Attridge(0-1) for Jack Dillon(51’), Adam Slattery for C Stanton(54’)..

Senior Football League….
Our Senior Footballers succumbed to a disappointing 4 point defeat at the hands of Macroom last Thursday evening in Round 4 of the Senior Football League, in Tom Creedon Park Macroom. Though very little separated the sides throughout Macroom held a one point lead at half time, 1-6 to 1-5. The teams were level 1-8 a piece after forty minutes, however Mallow were outscored 0-1 to 0-5 in the remaining twenty minutes to see it finish Mallow 1-9 Macroom 1-13.. The defeat now leaves Mallow in a slightly precarious position in the Senior League with four games remaining namely Ballincollig, O Donovan Rossa, St Finbarrs and Carbery Rangers. We wish them well..
Mallow- Kevin Doyle, Bill Myers, Andrew Cashman, Dan Sheehan, David Breen, Aaron Cahill, Stephen Coughlan, Killian O’Connor, Denis Hayes, Eoin Stanton, Ryan Harkin, Eoin Murphy, Kevin Sheehan, Cian O’Riordan, Kieran O’Sullivan..
Cork Minors narrowly miss out on Munster Final spot..
The Cork Minor Footballers lost out to Kerry last Tuesday by a single point in the Munster Minor Football Semi Final.. Cork will rue some missed chances in a game that was there for the taking and Kerry only got over the line in the last kick of the game. Always a hard way to lose a game. Well done to our own Sean McDonnell along with all the Avondhu representatives in particular Conor Corbett of Clyda Rovers GAA who scored 1-4 on the day. This young man is still U-16 and no doubt we’ll be seeing much more of him in the future.. Unfortunately there is no back door in the current Minor set up only for 1st Round losers and provincial final losers, what a pity..
