Mallow GAA

Pictured~ Our Junior Footballers and backroom team were kindly sponsored new tops by Barry John Ryan ahead of their League Semi- Final clash with Ballyclough this Friday at 730pm in Buttevant. The lads have put in trojan work this year and we thank them sincerely for that. We would hope everyone will get out and support them Friday. You might also notice in the centre of the picture Munster and Rugby Legend Paul Warwick who has been a native of Mallow in the last number of years and is also married to a local girl. The Junior Footballers have also done the amazing thing of making a very generous donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Association in Brisbane, Queensland, an association Paul and his family hold very dear to their hearts. So Paul came up to the club to present the lads with their new tops and receive the acknowledgement for the donation. It was a fantastic gesture by the lads and regardless of the code of sport is what GAA people are all about involving everyone in our community. As the Warwick family are moving back to live in Brisbane we would like to wish them all the very best of luck with their new chapter and of course we wish our own lads the very best of luck Friday evening. Maghealla ABU!!

Thanks to our Hurling and Football Sponsors O’Briens Garage, Mallow and Maureens Pub, O’Brien St Mallow respectively…
Great week-end for the Club
What a fantastic few days it was last weekend for Mallow GAA Club with over seventy teams competing in our Mallow GAA Eugene Carey Golf classic over Thursday and Friday, great wins for our Intermediate Footballers on Friday night and sublime wins, in Championship, for our U-16 and Junior Hurlers on Saturday. All while this was going on the Feile Football finals were taking place back in the complex and in fact all the Feile teams who had been playing throughout the County all came back to Carrigoon to watch the final and to avail of our excellent catering facilities.  Our Complex manager Liz and all the staff have to be commended for catering for over 600 meals last Saturday for the Feile teams and everything ran like clockwork. Its great to be getting a chance to show the real capabilities of our clubhouse and grounds.

U-16 Hurling Championship win
St. Mary’s Juvenile U-16 Hurlers, under the tutelage of Mick Sexton, Johnny Walsh, Tom Slattery and Tadgh O’Riordan had a sublime win over Fermoy last Saturday in the preliminary round of the Co. Premier 2 Hurling Championship. The level of skill shown throughout by both teams was an absolute joy to be behold and this Mallow team are definitely ones to watch.  The game was intensely close throughout with the sides level at half time of normal time 0-7 to 0-7 and it was the same scenario at the end of normal time, 0-15 to 1-12. So it took Extra-time to separate them but the Mallow lads were a class apart in both periods of Extra-time and in fact in the last ten minutes were the better team by a Country mile. A mixture of fitness and skill won the day, the final score was Mallow 1-22 Fermoy 1-14. We will follow this Championship with huge interest and no doubt there are tough challenges ahead with the likes of Blackrock, Carrigtwohilll and Inniscarra involved but this fine Mallow team are more than able for any contest that lies ahead and we wish them luck!!!
