Mallow GAA

Thanks to our Football and Hurling sponsors Maureen’s Pub, O’Brien St, Mallow and O’Briens garage, Cork rd, Mallow.

It was quiet on the playing fields this week as precedence gave way to both our Intermediate footballers and hurlers preparations for their respective second round ties. It’s the footballers up first this Saturday and they face the, always, tenacious West Cork outfit in Castletownbere. While never crossing paths in Championship Castletown have held their own in the Premier grade since their promotion in 2012. Although they’ve had a poor showing this year in their league campaign, to date, Mallow will no doubt have their hands full with these lads and regardless of how league games can go, through the year, for teams it’s the 60 or so mins next Saturday that will hold sway. In the words of Captain Eoin Stanton ” Obviously the Grenagh game was disappointing and we did not do ourselves justice. We have trained hard since then and there has been a good buzz around training. Everyone is looking forward to Saturday and competition for places is as good as I have seen it. We all can’t wait for Saturday evening now”. The game is fixed for Enniskeane at 730pm and support would be greatly appreciated.. Enniskeane is a nice spin down, around 1hr 15mins,  so give yourself plenty of time! The best route is Bweeng, Coachford and onto the main Cork- Killarney road and take a left turn for Crookstown and pass Newcestown.. Car pooling!!

Our Intermediate Hurlers now know their second round faith and they face Kilworth, who were beaten by Carrigaline at the weekend and that will be another tough draw! Even though they went three goals down earlier on they fought very hard and in the end were only beaten by two points. The game has been fixed for Fermoy on Sunday 22nd June at 215pm as part of a double header with Newtown and Youghal the other fixture.

One other fixture this week is the Division 1 Junior football League Mallow V Kilavullen next Monday night 9th at 730pm away to Kilavullen.
Best of luck to everyone sitting Leaving and Junior Cert examinations  starting this week especially all our club mates! I’m sure ye all have plenty of work done!!
