First Round Championship Draws

All eyes will be on the UCC Maradyke on Friday to see who Mallow will face in their first round Championship battles this year, as Rebel Og Central are delighted to announce their championship draws for all Premier competitions will take place on Friday 21^st of February in UCC Maradyke.

Draws for championships in the hurling and football at Minor, Fe16, Fe15 and Fe14 will take place. 10 teams will be drawn in the Premier 1 MFC with 14 teams in the hat for Premier 2 MFC. In the hurling minor draws, 12 teams will make up the Premier 1 MHC and 18 teams will be in the draw for the Premier 2 MHC.

In all, 38 clubs will be in one or more of the football championship draws that take place, while with the hurling draws, there will be 41 clubs taken part in the hurling championship.

Gaeltacht Scholarship

GAA scholarships to Coláiste na Mumhan are available to students between the ages of 10 and 19 years of age, who are active members of their clubs in the Avondhu Division.  The Scholarship reduces the price of the three-week courses (Cúrsa A) by €205 and the two week course (Cúrsa B) by €145. These reductions are comprised of contributions from Roinn Abhainn Dhubh, The Munster Council and Coláiste na Mumhan.

Cúrsa A €790 minus scholarship of €205 = €585 (Three week course 1/6/2013 – 22/6/2013)

Cúrsa B €550 minus scholarship of €145 = €405       (Two week course 28/6/2013 – 13/7/2013)

To avail of the scholarship, please follow the steps outlined below.

1.    Ensure that the student’s name is lodged with Denis Hickey atdenishickey10@gmail.com (086 3681115) or through your local club secretary. The student must be registered with his/her club.

2.    Complete this GAA scholarship application form (also available from your local club secretary, the Cork Gaa website or by download from www.colaistenamumhan.ie) and forward with the college application form to Denis Hickey, Ballyadeen, Castletownroche, Mallow, Co Cork. A deposit of €300 payable to Coláiste na Mumhan also needs to be included. This will confirm your place.  N.B.  Please note that both forms are required

3.   Later, prior to the commencement of their chosen course, on confirmation from Denis Hickey that the student’s name is on the required list, a bill for the outstanding amount and associated information about the course will be sent to you.

GAA motions relating to underage activites at Upcoming Congress

The motions listed below, if passed at the congress 2014 will have a bearing on underage activities

Motion 40 – Penalties in Hurling

Inevitably, this will be known as the ‘Anthony Nash’ motion. Proposed by the Standing Committee on Playing Rules, which is chaired by Uachtarán CLG Liam O’Neill and includes Kilkenny manager Brian Cody and former Cork goalkeeper Dónal Óg Cusack among others, it will mean anyone taking a penalty in hurling will have to strike the sliotar from the 20-metre line and will not be allowed to advance the ball deliberately. The rule already applied for frees and sideline balls, but will now be extended to include penalties.

Motion 41 – Interfering with Faceguards in Hurling

Interfering with an opponent’s faceguard or any other part of an opponent’s helmet is a sending off offence.

Motion 42 – Racist and Sectarian Abuse

Gives the referee the power to send a player who uses racist or sectarian language off. The rule, as it stands, doesn’t explicitly state that such abusive language is a sending off offence.

Motion 43 – Sponsorship of Underage Teams

Proposes to outlaw advertising material relating to alcohol companies, public houses and off-license premises from being displayed on playing gear of teams catering for players under 18 years of age.

Motion 53 – Changing Minor Grade to U17

Proposed by the Monaghan County Committee, motion 53 seeks for the minor grade to be changed to U17 rather than U18, as it is at the moment. It’s the first time this proposal will be discussed at GAA Congress.

Mid Term Camp

Our Mid Term Break GAA Camp started this morning for girls and boys aged 7 to 12 years and runs from 10am – 2pm in the GAA Complex.

Our annual registration evening will take place on Friday 28^th Friday from 6.30-8.30pm in Mallow GAA Complex.
