Mallow 4-18 Douglas 0-21
Mallow reached the final of the Premier Minor Hurling Championship and a date with Blackrock with a well deserved victory over Douglas on Wednesday night in Pairc Ui Rinn.
Douglas opened the scoring with a point in the 3rd minute and credit to Mallow this was the only time that Douglas would lead over the hour. Sean Hayes goaled for Mallow in the 4th minute catching a great ball from a long clearance from Killian O Connor. Two more points by Aaron Sheehan and Scott Walmsley settled Mallow and from this point they were in complete control.
With only 8 minutes on the clock Killian O Connor made a great run forward and laid the sliotar off to Scott Walmsley who pulled first time and left Douglas keeper with no chance. Pa Herlihy whose contribution over the hour was outstanding got on the score sheets with two points the latter from his own 65. Great work by Podge Buckley and Ryan Harkin set Aaron Sheehan up for another point.
Douglas got their second point in the 14th minute only for Aaron to reply immediately from the puck out with a point.
With the first half at the midway point Pa Herlihy pointed and again he was on the score sheet with a point following a pass from Podge, great work by Ronan Mills in the build up to this point.
Four unanswered points from Douglas did not faze Mallow as Aaron replied with a point, Mallow scored their third goal of the half when a long ball from Podge Buckley was flicked to the net by Sean Hayes (slightest of touches Podge may be claiming this score).
As half time drew near Douglas pointed but Mallow replied and finished strong with 2 points from Podge and Sean Hayes.
At the short whistle Mallow 3-11 Douglas 0-8.
The second half continued as the first half ended with Podge Buckley pointing for Mallow, Douglas threw everything at Mallow and scored 3 points only for Herlihy to reply with another for Mallow.
Aaron Sheehan pointed from a free in the 10th minute of the half with Douglas getting the next few scores 2 from frees and a point from play.
Ryan Harkin now playing at the edge of the square goaled for Mallow in the 19th minute following a tremendous run by Aaron. Two more points from Douglas were answered for Mallow by substitute Michael O Rourke. In the final 5 minutes Douglas grabbed 5 points with Mallow to reply with 2 points from Aaron and Pa Herlihy.
This was a great performance by Mallow and all 18 players who took the field on the night gave it their all.
Total focus is now on the final against Blackrock on Monday 1st Oct (prov).
