Minor Hurling Premier 1 Championship
Mallow v Kiltha Og
16th August in CIT
Mallow’s Minor hurlers continued their championship campaign in fine style last Thursday despite atrocious weather conditions. A trio of goals in the opening ten minutes from Ed Healy, Sean Hayes and David Sheahan followed by a point from Aaron Sheehan put Kiltha Og on the back foot and from there on in they were playing catch up. With Daniel Sheehan, Podge Buckley and Ronan Mills in total control in the half back line it was to be the 15th minute before Kiltha Og got their first point on the board. In the meantime Mallow added a further goal courtesy of Pa Herlihy and a massive aerial catch that Sean Hayes won cleanly and slotted over. He followed up 5 minutes later with another well taken point. Pa Healy,Jack Murphy and Alec Luttrell kept the Kiltha Og forwards quiet with Luttrell stopping a penalty on the line and it was to be the 28th minute before Kiltha Og rattled the net. Ryan Harkin added a sublime goal and a point to Mallow’s tally and a free put over the bar from Killian O Connor left the half time score; Mallow 5-05 Kiltha Og 1-05.
At the resumption substitute Billy Hayes immediately added a goal to the scoreboard. Kiltha Og responded with a goal in the 37th minute. Aaron Sheehan again slotted one between the uprights in the 40th minute and a minute later Ryan Harkin pointed following a fine delivery from Scott Walmsley, which he followed up by scoring again in the 42nd minute. Scott Walmsley added his own name to the scoresheet shortly after and a further goal from full forward Sean Hayes sealed the deal. The final score was Mallow 7-09 Kiltha Og 2-07. Mallow will now face the winner of St. Finbarrs and Douglas in the Semi Final in September.
