Minor Hurling Championship; Our Minor hurlers got their Championship back on track on Thursday night last in CIT against Sarsfield with a victory on a score line of 4-15 to 0-7. The start of the match was delayed due to extra time been played in opening match and also before the throw in Ryan Harkin had to cry off due to injury and was ably replaced by Edmond Healy. All these distractions did not affect the team.
From the throw in Mallow took control and were 1-4 to 0-1 up after 10mins the points coming from Aaron Sheehan who hit three frees, Pa Herlihy contributing a point and a well taken goal by Edmond Healy after a shot from Sean Hayes was well saved by the Sars goalkeeper. Edmond took his goal tally to two in the 11 min followed by another goal from corner forward Scott Walmsley in the 12th min. For the remainder of the first half Mallow were in complete control and Aaron secured another point from a free and Scott scored a point following a great run and lay off by Pa Herlihy, Sarsfield tried hard to get back into the game by scoring three points answered by Mallow who had another point from Scott. At the short whistle Mallow led by 3-7 to 0-5.
On the resumption Mallow scored some great points 5 in total, 2 frees from Aaron and points from Pa, Scott and Sean before Sars replied with one. Podge Buckley got on the score sheet in the 12min with a great point followed shortly after by another from Sean Hayes. Michael O Rourke who came on after 20 mins for David Sheehan scored another point,
Mallow emptied the bench in the second half and all players who entered the fray continued the good work the final score for Mallow was in the 29min with a goal from Sean Hayes.
