Mallow GAA

A big week for our Intermediate Footballers..
After 6 weeks since their first round tie with Nemo Rangers our Intermediate Footballers will be looking forward to returning to competitive Championship action this weekend. They take on Ballingeary in Round 2A next Sunday 30th June with a throw in time of 330pm in Blarney.. It is a case of double delight in Blarney on Sunday with our Minor Hurlers opening proceedings in their second round championship tie with St Finbarrs, throw in for that game is 130pm..

U-21 Footballers bow out of Championship..
Our U-21 Footballers exited the County Championship after falling to Carrigaline last Wednesday in Round 1. A lively, physical contest from start to finish with Mallow taking their chances in the first half to lead proceedings at the short whistle 1-5 to 0-5. Scores coming from a Sean Hayes green flag and some fine points from Eoin Murphy, Ben Slattery and Trevor McEvoy. As the scoreboard suggests it was Carrigaline who was on target in the third and fourth quarters and from the half time whistle had four unanswered points to gain a lead by the narrowest margins. Carrigaline drove on from here and when Mallow had two players red carded(2nd yellows) along with losing Sean Hayes through injury it was an uphill battle they could never win. Despite ouscoring Mallow 0-9 to 0-3, in the second half, Carrigaline still only finished with with a three point margin and Mallow had finished with fifteen on the field things might have been different. Best of luck to all the players involved next Sunday..
Mallow- Kevin Doyle, Michael Healy, Jack Kennedy, David Breen, Craig Lynch(0-1), Stephen O’Callaghan, Darren O’Riordan, Matthew McGlynn, Trevor McEvoy(0-1), Kieran O’Sullivan(0-1), Darragh Moynihan, Eoin Murphy(0-2), Ben Slattery(0-3), Sean Hayes(1-0), Marc Kenny.
Subs- Kevin Taylor for Sean Hayes, Eoghan Barry for Darren O’Riordan, Aaron Woods for Marc Kenny.

Intermediate Hurling..
After a number of recent challenge games the Hurlers are gathering excellent momentum in their current training program. Tough games against the likes of Ballybrown and Effin have no doubt given the management some headaches with fellas returning from injury etc knocking on the door of the team selection process.. All is quiet from a competitive aspect this week with the Dual players and Minor Hurlers out on Sunday. The next League game for the Intermediate Hurlers is Friday week away to Charleville at 715pm, which will be a good test.

Cork Intermediate Hurlers lose out to Kilkenny..
With strong Mallow representation on the first Cork team to take to the field in the new Páirc Ui Chaoimh last Sunday namely Sean Hayes, Aidan Long and selector Ronan Sheehan, the All Ireland Intermediate Hurling title went back to Kilkenny unfortunately. The lads all did their club and county proud with Sean Hayes shooting 0-6 on the day, one of these white flags a remarkable sideline cut.. Well done lads!!!

Complex news..
With the ongoing restoration of the Bishop Casey Park gate ongoing in the Town park, there has been a lot of work done in the last few months in the club. At times we underestimate the work needed to keep a place like Carrigoon in tip top shape and along with all the work our members do the lads under the superb guidance of Emer Connaughton in the CES scheme are probably the unsung hero’s of all the day to day work that takes place. Their work is carried out to perfection from the cutting of grass to the excellent job they did on the painting of the goal posts and the general up keep of the club house. A massive thanks to them all..

North Cork Country Music festival…
With now less than a month to the day and tickets selling fast we hope everyone has their tickets for the up coming North Cork Country music festival. Along with being a great day it will be a major fundraiser for the future of the club which will help with things like building a skills/Hurling wall and a playground amongst other things. At €25 it is incredible value and we will have bars, picnic areas, free parking and catering facilities all located around the main pitch where the concert will take place.. Tickets can be got from the complex and various outlets and would make a great present for other members of the family.. Hope to see you all there for a great day out!!! Remember U-16’s go free when accompanied by an adult, so it will make for a great family day out. This will hopefully be the start of many great events for the club. See you all there..
