Winter training 2017

Adult Footballl and Hurling teams return to action…

With both our Football and Hurling panels now back in winter training, Christmas almost seems like a distant memory. The sudden drop in temperature and tough conditions make for some gruelling sessions at this time of the year but the hard yards are part and parcel of GAA life. As is now customary, in the Cork GAA calendar, our Intermediate Footballers, competitively, will be first to take to the field. The Tom Creedon Cup, which is now in its 22nd year, is their first port of call and their first game will see them face Cill Na Martra away on 21st January at 23Opm. The winners will then face either Bandon or Ballydesmond in the Quarter final a week later.

Of Course after winning back to back League titles over the last two years, our Intermediate Footballers will now be operating in the County Division 1 League and their maiden League game seems them pitted against Nemo Rangers on the weekend of February 12th with rounds 2 and 3 against St Finbarrs and Valley Rovers in the subsequent weeks. We wish them well!!!

The County Hurling League has a slightly different format in that although our Intermediate Hurlers won Division 1 last year they are not promoted to the Senior Hurling League but only the teams that win the County PIHC. The Hurlers first League tie is actually a Round 2 game, after getting a bye in Round 1, against Fermoy on the weekend of the 12th March and Cloyne in Round 3 on the weekend of March 26th.. We also wish our Hurlers all the very best for 2O17..

Sean Hayes selected for Cork Senior Hurling Panel

Mallow star forward Sean Hayes was picked for the Cork Senior Hurling panel that lined out against UCC in the Canon O’Brien Cup last weekend. Unfortunately due to an injury Sean was unable to tog out on the night but we all wish him a speedy recovery. It, hopefully, won’t be long before he is back in the Red and White jersey.

Matty Taylor makes his debut with Cork Senior Foobtallers..

Mallow GAA Club player Matty Taylor lined out at half back with the Cork Senior Footballers in the McGrath Cup against Tipperary on Wednesday 11th. Cork had too much for the Premier County and ran out comfortable winners 2-22 to 1-10.. A star defender for Mallow for years now as well as recent turns with Avondhu at Senior level this is such a well deserved honour for such an outstanding athlete. Here’s to a long and fulfilling Inter-County career..
