Mallow GAA

  • Following the Cork County Championships draw on Tuesday night last our Premier Intermediate teams now know who they are to face in Round 4 of the Championships. Our Intermediate Hurlers who are due to take to the stage on the August bank holiday weekend, but is yet to be confirmed, will face Watergrasshill and our Intermediate Footballers will face Ballingeary. The footballers will have to wait to see how the Cork Senior Footballers progress in the qualifiers before they can get out again…
  • Last Saturday our Junior Footballers met Mitchelstown in the Quarter final of the North Cork and to be fair it was a total mismatch. Mitcheltown were on top from the start and didn’t relent through-out. They went away comfortable winners on a score-line of Mallow 0-9 Mitchlstown 4-20.
  • A huge fixture for our Junior Hurlers this week who face Newtownshandrum next Sunday 21st July at 730pm in Charleville and we hope everyone gets behind the lads in this quarter final thriller!!!
  • Our U21 Hurlers are also out, after a long wait, in their first round and they face Kilworth next Tuesday 23rd July in Castletownroche at 730pm.
  • It’s also a big week for Mallow GAA Camogie and ladies football and the Mallow Senior B Camogie girls face Kilbrittain/Timoleague on Monday next 22nd July in Castle-Road Mahon at 730pm. So make sure you get up there to support the only Senior team in the club.. The Mallow ladies Junior Footballers are then out in their Championship first round on Tuesday 23rd July and they play Boherbue in Carrigoon at 8pm. In the words of Aoife O’Rourke there’s no reason not to support a home game…
  • The Carrigoon trad musicians who play in the clubhouse the last Saturday of every month were on the Jimmy Reidy show on C103fm last Monday night and it was an absolutely fantastic show it must be said! Liam Sheehan also spoke about his colourful history with Mallow GAA and many great legendary names of hurlers and footballers in North Cork and beyond were spoken of.. The musicians gave, absolutely, fantastic renditions of well known Irish songs and and really showed the high standards at which they play. Well done to Gerry O’Callaghan and Dick Daly to name but a few and all the others who were fantastic on the night! It hit home about the long, cultural and truly proud association GAA has with the history of this Country  and at times with our big complexes and our strive for silverware this can get lost in the mix!! The second part of this programme is on next Monday night and all the musicians will return and many tales of yore and tales of the legend that is Paddy Care will also be relayed!! Make sure you listen!! ABU
